* Injection: A powerful machine (often truck-mounted for maximum power) injects a heated cleaning solution deep into the carpet fibers under high pressure. This solution penetrates the carpet, surrounding and loosening dirt, allergens, and grime that vacuuming can't reach.

* Extraction: Immediately after the solution is injected, a powerful vacuum suction extracts the dirty water, along with the dissolved dirt, cleaning solution, and loosened contaminants, into a recovery tank. This process is crucial for removing as much moisture and soil as possible, leading to faster drying times and preventing residue buildup.
* Rinsing: Often, a neutralizing rinse is applied during the extraction phase to remove any remaining cleaning solution residue. This helps prevent resoiling and keeps carpets cleaner for longer.
3. Drying and Post-Cleaning:
* Speed Drying: While hot water extraction involves water, professional systems are designed to extract the vast majority of it, leaving the carpets damp, not soaking wet. Technicians may use air movers or fans to help expedite the drying process, which typically takes a few hours, but can vary depending on humidity and airflow.
* Post-Grooming (Optional): The technician may "groom" the carpet pile with a rake or brush to reset the pile, which can improve its appearance and aid in drying.
* Post-Inspection: A final walk-through with the client ensures satisfaction and addresses any remaining concerns.
Other Carpet Cleaning Methods (Less Common for Deep Cleaning):
While Hot Water Extraction is the gold standard for deep cleaning, you might hear about other methods:
* Dry Cleaning: This method uses very little to no water. Instead, a dry absorbent compound or powder containing cleaning agents is spread over the carpet, agitated into the fibers, and then vacuumed up. * Bonnet Cleaning: This is primarily a surface cleaning method. A rotary machine with an absorbent pad (bonnet) saturated with a cleaning solution is buffed over the carpet surface. The bonnet absorbs dirt from the top layer of the carpet. It's often used for maintenance between deep cleans or for light surface soiling.
* Encapsulation: This method involves applying a liquid or foam detergent that crystallizes as it dries, encapsulating the dirt particles. Once dry, the crystallized dirt is vacuumed away. It uses less water than hot water extraction, leading to faster drying times, but may not be as effective for heavily soiled carpets or deep stains.
